We decided to split our wedding festivities in two parts – beginning with the official part at the registry office now and the church wedding and party in the Tierpark Sababurg in August. The first part of this all took place at the old town hall in Göttingen, Germany – a place I’ve been to many times in my life. We just wanted to do this formal action: signing some paper, exchanging rings.

It is one of these trips you remember your whole lifetime. We had four free days because of Ascension Day and decided to have a short trip to Scotland – including a full day in Edinburgh and a roadtrip through the highlands up to Loch Ness and the Isle of Skye.
Taxi – Train – Subway – Bus
While travelling I experienced many tough situations – but not a single one was as complicated as coming back from Edinburgh to Germany this time. On Saturday British Airways experienced an electricity outage at their data center resulting in massive IT problems. Therefore most flights from Heathrow and Gatwick couldn’t start. The Tramway
Local transport in Edinburgh, Scotland is mostly based on busses. Two transport companies get you around on numerous lines. And it is quite easy: you can pay £1.60 for a single trip or £4 for a day ticket. Just remember that you have to pay the exact amount when entering the bus – you’ll get no change. Tha gradh agam ort!
If you get into the Highlands of Scotland you will see that all signs get bilingual: the names of places are written in Gaelic and English. Gaelic is a set of three languages spoken in Ireland and Scotland. They are close to each other and quite close to the Irish language. Continue reading “Tha gradh agam ort!”
Driving on the wrong side
When we went to Scotland we didn’t want to stay in Edinburgh all the time – we wanted to see the Highlands, Loch Ness and the Isle of Skye. Therefore we rented a car at the airport of Edinburgh. I had already driven different cars in various countries around the globe but still I was a bit afraid because I never was driving on the left side of the road. Getting a dress
There seems to be nothing as emotional for a woman during wedding preparation than to get a wedding dress. While I was only visiting my normal men’s outfitter my fiancé decided for a tailor-made dress and with the help of Pinterest and Dawanda she found a friendly tailor in Eppelheim, Germany offering her services under the name “Brautkleider Heidelberg“. All inclusive
I always said that I would only go to the island of Mallorca with children. It is a touristy place, nearly everybody has already been there, you don’t have a language barrier and it offers very good infrastructure. And now there was the time to book this trip as our young companion requested to have his first flight. Continue reading “All inclusive”
Swiss post
If you get into a shop in a different country and ask for stamps you’ll expect to get stamps provided by the local post. On Mallorca tourists are often surprised that they can’t throw their postcards into the normal Correos post boxes. That is because of the deregulation of the market and the option of other companies to deliver letters and postcards. And on the island the Swiss post is active. Continue reading “Swiss post “
Driving fun
If you want to go by car to Sa Calobra, Spain you’ll have to drive on roads through the mountains providing spectacular views. You’ll just have to watch cars coming the other direction and circle around bicycles. The most interesting part begins at the Coll dels Reis. Continue reading “Driving fun”
