Naturpark Münden

Founding a Naturpark is a measure to protect nature, to preserve the current landscape and to use it for touristic reasons. In 1959 the Naturpark Münden was founded (as one of the first in Germany) on the 374 km² large area of the former Landkreis Hann. Münden (today often referred to as Altkreis Münden).

It stretches from the border to Kassel to the boundaries of Göttingen and includes parts of the Kaufunger Wald and the Bramwald. The four cities within the Naturpark Münden are Hann. Münden, Staufenberg, Dransfeld and Adelebsen (which seems to have been added later). It is a good place to explore nature and especially for hiking, many marked routes lead through the area including the Werra-Burgen-Steig, the Studentenpfad, Frau-Holle-Pfad, Fuldahöhenweg or Märchenlandweg.

The area is especially shaped by the rivers Werra, Fulda and Weser – giving good opportunities for sports on the water or to ride along by bicycle. The Naturpark Münden is organized as an association and the headquarter is located at the botanical garden at Hann. Münden. They organize to protect and promote this wonderful area.
