At the Schlachthof

The Alter Schlachthof is a concert hall in Dresden, Germany. It was opened in 1871 as the central slaughterhouse of the city. In 1907 a new slaughterhouse was opened on the grounds now used for fairs and therefore the Alter Schlachthof was closed. The buildings were used as a storage area by different companies.

In 1998 the Alter Schlachthof opened as a concert hall with all necessary facilities. If you enter it you’ll find toilets and a wardrobe downstairs (expect long queues) and then you’ll see a long bar where you can get drinks pretty fast. From there four doors lead to the main hall which is simply a vast hall with a stage in front.

That was pretty unusual to me: I now a lot of concert halls and they all had different structures, more than one level or a bar inside. This is just a flat area on which a lot of people are standing. I came here for a concert of the Swedish band Mando Diao whom I listened to for many many years and I waited a lot of years to get the opportunity to attend to one of their concerts. I still love their albums Give Me Fire, Hurricane Bar and Ode to Ochrasy and it was a very nice evening.
