If you’re at the city center of Madrid, Spain you will experience that the city is everything but not flat. You’re almost constantly walking up and down hills. But what is missing is some kind of viewpoint – you have no chance to see how vast the city is. One option is close to the Templo de Debod where you can have a look on the Palacio Real, the Catedral de la Almudena and the western part of the city, but it is only a limited view on the city.

If you like to stay in the city center near the interesting places of Madrid, Spain then the Hotel Ópera might be an option. It is located directly next to the opera and is therefore only few meters away from the Palacio Real and the beautiful garden in front of it. The hotel is labeled as a four star hotel but feels rather like three stars – but that is okay, the fourth star is for location.

If you’re standing in front of the ibis hotel at Bremen, Germany you might wonder if this is really a ‘good location’: it is located at the Rembertiring and a giant roundabout. But it is a good place if you want to visit the city – the railway station is less then 10 minutes on foot, the city center is close-by and it is next to the Viertel. You can even walk to the Weserstadion within 25 minutes, it is just two kilometers away.

I can’t remember that I was ever in a hotel at München, Germany that I wanted to book again afterwards. Often I stayed in cheap hotels close to the railway station or in shiny conference hotels somewhere outside of the city center. With the hotel ‘Am Nockherberg‘ it’s totally different: it is a cosy place in a nice area and easily reachable.
Artagonist
The Artagonist hotel is a wonderful art hotel in the center of Vilnius, Lithuania and located not far away from the university, the town hall square, the cathedral square and Užupis. It is in the heart of the city and a good place from where to explore Vilnius on foot. The rooms are beautifully designed and the hotel includes a restaurant and a bar.

The owners of the hotel Monte Kristo at Rīga, Latvia must be fans of the adventure novel ‘The Count of Monte Cristo‘ by Alexandre Dumas. The hotel looks pretty ancient, everywhere you can see paintings of ships and harbours and in the corridors there are barrels and trading sacks. Even though you won’t see much of the Baltic sea during your visit you’ll at least have maritime flair.

When I first checked into a prizeotel (close to the railway station of Bremen, Germany) I immediately fell in love with their concept. It’s simple, with vibrant colours and the design of the rooms is simply clever. If that’s something you like too, this cheap design hotel chain might be a good choice for you. The one in Hannover, Germany is a little bit aside but not too far away from the main railway station.

Finding a hotel in the South of Berlin, Germany can be quite a problem. I wanted to attend a confirmation ceremony at a church in Lankwitz, but there isn’t any place to sleep. An area full of residential homes far away from the touristy capital. Therefore I booked the nearest hotel at Steglitz, the Hotel Steglitz International.

The DORMERO Hotel at Stuttgart, Germany is a giant hotel with two buildings at the SI-Centrum a little bit outside of the city. It is a business hotel with many fair visitors but also used by people that visit one of the musicals performed at the SI-Centrum. The style is special: when you enter the room it is lighted in red and you’ll ask yourself what kind of hotel you’ve booked. But therefore you get free Sky TV and free drinks in the minibar (and you can switch your room to green, yellow, blue or white, if you want).
