This area of Göttingen, Germany was once a black spot: the “Güterbahnhofstraße” was known for just two things – the freight terminal (including cargo-based traffic on road and rail) and the red-light district. Everything changes over time, the area was developed and one of the buildings close to the tracks has been refurbished and now hosts an Italian restaurant, bar and discotheque: the “Amavi“.

Herz über Kopf
Shops come and go in the inner city center of Hann. Münden, Germany. The town is mostly frequented by day tourists during summertime and that is why some shops within the side streets have to fight to survive. After the pet shop at the Rosenstraße was closed it was empty for a while – but now a new coffee shop popped up: the “Herz über Kopf“. Continue reading “Herz über Kopf”

Monkey bar
Everything changed at the railway station “Berlin Zoologischer Garten” as the long-distance trains started to miss this place and to stop at the new main railway station of Berlin, Germany. When I returned here after a few years of absence, I didn’t recognize where I am at the beginning. The most ugly buildings have been rebuilt and event the public spaces have changed pretty much. Burger bar at the Ruhr
We were stranded in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany during a fair in Essen, Germany. And there is nothing more important after a stressful fair day then to have a beer and something to eat. That is why we were searching on the Internet for bars and restaurants in Mülheim – and not expecting to much. Franky’s bar popped up as a recommendation and it was worth the visit. Wednesday. Every damn Wednesday. I have the feeling of having spent years in my life at the Thanner’s Tag & Nachtschänke in Göttingen, Germany. It is a rather dark but comfy bar directly at the Wilhelmsplatz. I was there every week during school and study times and while I was active in politics I told people that I would have my weekly consultation hours here – they were used frequently.
The Batschkapp
The Batschkapp in Frankfurt am Main, Germany is a legend: a left-wing rock music club founded in 1976. It was first located in Eschersheim and moved to a new place in the city district Seckbach in 2013. There it has been enlarged to a modern music club which can also host big concerts – and even the old Batschkapp has already been a stage for R.E.M., Nirvana and Die Toten Hosen.
Little Italy
The Bar Centrale is a wonderful Italian bar in München, Germany. It is located close to the city center near to the Hofbräuhaus. From the outside you wouldn’t expect what’s inside: a traditional bar and coffee bar in the front and a small room to sit down and enjoy some pasta in the back. The staff is all-Italian, the coffee is classy and it is a good hint to stop by for an Aperol Sprizz.
