Not far from Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, Germany, you’ll find the Solar – a sky bar with a high quality restaurant. When walking onto the parking space close to Stresemannstraße you see a door without a doorknob.
Beer and the United States? That doesn’t fit too well together for a German, continously experiencing the advantages of the German purity requirements (“Reinheitsgebot“). But in fact, there is a pretty good brewery in New York City. One with splendid bottle designs and various kinds of beer to taste.
During my stay in New York the quarter and semi finals of the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil where held. That is why I was looking for a bar showing the games of the German soccer team (“Die Mannschaft“, as it is called in the States). Easily I found the “Zum Schneider“, a Bavarian beergarden and restaurant in the East Village of New York.
We all know classic New York style bars from the various TV series – but if you want the feeling of going back in time, visit McSorley’s Old Ale House close to Astor Place. You get good beer in a dark but welcoming environment, experience the service by the friendly waiters and after five minutes you immediately feel at home.
In need for some relaxation, sun and a good drink? To get away from the big city and to gain the feeling of being far away on vacation you can get on top of the multi-storey car park of Schönhauser Allee Arcaden. There you can put your feet into sand, find the perfect sunlounger and enjoy some cocktails and light snacks.
