The street adress tells everything: Schöne Aussicht, beautiful views. The bar Bolero is situated between the city center of Kassel and the Karlsaue park (directly next to the New Gallery of Art) and there you can enjoy a beer (especially: Astra from Hamburg, Germany), some cocktails or – what seems to be a specialty: good burgers.
Confusingly, Kassel has two railway stations: Kassel Hauptbahnhof (main station, also called ‘Kulturbahnhof‘) and Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe. While Kassel main station is located at the heart of the city but is only served by regional trains, the long-distance train station Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe is at the spa-district Wilhelmshöhe in the west of Kassel.Continue reading “The Palace of the Winds”
Is your last trip to Switzerland already too far away? If you want to enjoy some traditional Swiss meals the “Matterhorn-Stübli” is the place for you! Located in “Bad Wilhelmshöhe” close to the Schloss Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel, you can feel like rather being close to the Alps.
Compared to my hometown, nightlife in Kassel is a bit limited. The Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, where most bars are, disappoints me – and the interesting spots like the Lolita bar are spread throughout the city. When it comes to concert locations there is one well known place – even outside of Kassel: The MusikTheater (or short: “MT”).
People in Kassel typically don’t live in the city center, they build their houses in one of the numerous towns around. One of these, located north of Kassel, is Vellmar. It is easily reachable via tramway from Kassel and has a good cultural scene. Once a year they set a hugh tent onto their Festplatz and invite different artists to a festival.
Within the district ‘Wilhelmshöhe‘ of Kassel, Germany, you can find the brewery ‘Zum Rammelsberg’ – a small brewery with good food and a nice beer garden. In fact, they are serving beer of Kassels Hütt brewery (located in Baunatal!) which is only available in northern Hesse. A ‘Hütt naturtrüb‘ (unfiltered) is always a good choice!Continue reading “Brauhaus “Zum Rammelsberg””
The Kulturzelt in Kassel, Germany is an institution. Starting nearly 30 years ago every year a tent is set up in summer time at the Karlsaue, close to the river Fulda. Over some weeks different national and international music acts play there – sometimes with a free space for dancing and sometimes with chairs to relax with a bit more quiet music.Continue reading “17 Hippies and a tent”
Definitely my favorite restaurant in Kassel, Germany. The “Il Convento” is located close to the Königsplatz and is situated within the old Garnisonskirche (garrison church), which creates a unique atmosphere. The staff cooks traditional Italian food, they behave like Italians, curse in italiano and it might also happen that you have a waiter that doesn’t understand German.Continue reading “Il Convento”
The Waldhotel Schäferberg in Espenau, Germany is a hotel in the outskirts of Kassel. It is located at the federal road B3 between Vellmar and the airport Kassel-Calden. The Waldhotel is famous for its brunch, big family festivities and corporate seminars. It has a huge hall, a restaurant and a bar. Most people get here by car but there is also a bus going from Kassel. Continue reading “Brunch, weddings & seminars”
