A good activity for a rainy day is to visit one or two museums in Friedrichshafen, Germany. What one doesn’t expect if he’s not well prepared is that the region has a strong connection to aviation. Important airships have been built here at the shore of Lake Constance and can be seen at the Zeppelin museum.
If you’re not at Santiago de Chile there aren’t that much museums to visit. The Casa del Arte in Concepción (Bío Bío region) is an exception. It belongs to the University of Concepción and within this not very modern building paintings from different Chilean epochs are on display.

The Museo Colchagua in Santa Cruz, Chile was one of the few museums I was able to visit during my tour from north to south. And it is a special one, not really going deep into topics but very wide. It starts with some archeological exhibits, shows the time of the Spanish invasion and the first settlers, gives inside into the developement of the republic and then switches over to winemaking (important in this area) and it exhibits also some railways.
Looking for some modern art in Istanbul, Turkey? There is one location you cannot ommit – in Beyoğlu, one of the city parts on the European side, you’ll find the İstanbul Modern. Close to the place where cruise ships are anchoring in Istanbul a new museum has opened in 2004. In a building looking like a warehouse modern art is presented on 8.000 square meters.
The Tate Modern in London, United Kingdom located near St. Paul’s Cathedral directly at the river Thames. It has been created in the year 2000 in an old power station and is the biggest museum of modern art.

The Kunstmuseum Basel is an art museum in Basel, Switzerland located in the city center close to river Rhein. It contains 4.000 images, sculptures and installations belonging to visual arts. The railway museum of Warszawa, Poland is quite special. It is located in an old railway station and you can first take a look at lots of exhibits indoor. When it comes to rum, I always prefer Havana Club. Authentic Cuban rum, not that Bacardí stuff from the Bahamas, produced by a company supporting el bloqueo. The Museo de la Revolución is a museum in La Habana, Cuba. It is located in the neo-classic presidential palace, decorated by Tiffany & Co. of New York, United States. On the southern coast of Cuba, not far away from Cienfuegos you can find the Bahía de Cochinos (“bay of pigs“) with its two beaches Playa Larga and Playa Girón. The area became well known in 1961 because of the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion by the United States and Cuban people living in the U.S. – today you can learn more about the Cuban view on this event in a museum at Playa Girón.
