The Parque das Nações (park of the nations) is an area outside of the city center in the east of Lisboa, Portugal. It was created for the world exhibition in 1998 and is today an own city quarter. Europe’s biggest indoor aquarium can be found in Lisboa, Portugal: the Oceanário de Lisboa is located in the Parque das Nações created for the world exhibition Expo 98. It seems to be always crowded: the shop Pasteis de Belém in Lisboas city quarter Belém not far away from the famous Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. The Museu Coleção Berardo is an art museum located in the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisboa, Portugal – not far from the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. The Mosteiro dos Jerónimos is an important cloister in Belém and as a UNESCO world heritage site one of the must-see places in Lisboa, Portugal. That is why often long queues exist in front of the building, but it is worth waiting. The cloister was built from the year 1501 on and was home to the Hieronymites. The memorial of discoveries (Padrão dos Descobrimentos) is a huge monument in Belém at the river Tejo. It was created by the regime of dictator Salazar to honor Prince Henry “the Navigator” who was an important figure for the Portuguese to discover the unknown world. The Torre de Belém is one of the main sights in Lisboa, Portugal and obviously not very well suited for tourist masses. It was opened in 1521 as a lighthouse on a rock in the river mouth of the river Tejo. It was mostly used to greet leaving or arriving ships – not so much to protect the city. The Stupido is a funny bar in Lisboa, Portugal. It is painted in many colors, they offer a long list of good cocktails and serve some slices of pizza now and then. I wouldn’t cross the whole city for it but was the right bar for our needs. Continue reading “Stupido”
The Mercado da Ribeira is a market hall near the Cais de Sodré in Lisboa, Portugal. From the 19th century on fish, vegetables and fruits are traded here.
