Watching birds
In my youth it was impossible to go by car through Lower Saxony and not to here the radio advertisement for the “Vogelpark Walsrode” with its iconic jingle. But we never went to the biggest bird park in the world in the Lüneburg Heath, located near Walsrode, Germany. Now was the time for that and the park created in 1962 is definitely worth a visit, even though you will find some deterioration here and there. Continue reading “Watching birds”
Visiting the cloister
Morschen is a small town south of Melsungen, Germany. There you can find the cloister Haydau dating back to the year 1235 CE – beautifully preserved and now used for cultural events. Zur Fähre
If you’re looking for a beergarden in Hann. Münden, Germany the list of options isn’t too long. If you go a bit north to Hemeln, still belonging to Hann. Münden, there is a well-known and most-frequented one: the Gasthaus ‘Zur Fähre’. Strawberry fields
These days you can get strawberries everywhere. If you don’t want to simply buy them and have the fun of gathering yourself you can get to Göttingen, Germany and visit the strawberry fields of family Mecke. Restaurant or diner?
The new Turkish restaurant Istanbul in Hann. Münden seems to exist because of two reasons: first, the Lokanta – a famous Turkish restaurant – closed and second, the Bollywood – a fantastic Indian restaurant had to shut down. Premier Inn
The Premier Inn is a hotel at terminal 4 of the Heathrow airport in London, England. It is located next to the Hilton airport hotel and connected to terminal 4 by a footbridge. It offers good hotel rooms and as a special feature it has its own Costa coffee bar in the basement.
Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art
The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art is an art museum consisting of two neo-classical buildings in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was opened in 1960 and relocated to its current location in 1980. Royal Museum
It is a playground for old and young: the National Museum of Scotland or Royal Museum in Edinburgh, Scotland is a fantastic museum of natural history, technology and art. Palace of Holyroodhouse
The Palace of Holyroodhouse or Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, Scotland is the official residence of the Queen in Scotland. It is located at the east end of the Royal Mile – directly opposite to the Scottish parliament. It was once the guesthouse of the Abbey of Holyrood now lying in ruins.
