In the center of München, Germany and not far away from river Isar you can find the cultural center Gastein. It is an event location, concert hall and home to the Münchner Philharmoniker. When it comes to event locations, Kassel (Germany) has a lot to offer. Besides the fair grounds, the Stadthalle and the buildings of the documenta there are different smaller places. One of them is the Renthof directly at the river Fulda. It is a part of the former cloister of the Carmelites (named after Mount Carmel) from the 13th century CE. The WildtierPark Edersee is a park for wild domestic animals in Edertal, Germany – not far away from the Edersee dam and next to the TreeTopWalk. From the park you can have some nice views on the Edersee, the dam and Schloß Waldeck. At the entrance you can find a nice exhibition from the Naturschutzbund (NABU) and then take a round trip through the park which lasts about two hours. Continue reading “Domestic animals”
The Amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen, Germany is a concert location directly at the Rhein-Herne-Kanal and within a nice park. It is also not too far away from Essen, Germany. The place is built in the shape of a classic amphitheatre but made of concrete. The stage is next to the water and the only place with a roof – you should therefore hope to have good weather conditions. There are Greek restaurants in Germany like sand on the beach – but to find a good one isn’t always easy. When we arrived in Essen, Germany we tried to find something to eat between the motorway exit and our hotel. But there was nothing, not even one of those fastfood chains spread throughout the republic. Luckily in the backyard of our hotel we found the backdoor to a restaurant. We were looking for a hotel not far away from the Amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen, Germany as we wanted to attend a concert there. Our requirements were low but we were pretty late and therefore had to take the Astoria City Resort hotel in Altenessen, a city quarter of neighboring Essen, Germany. The Ratsbrauhaus in Hann. Münden, Germany is a restaurant located under the old town hall of the city. It is a nice place which offers also enough space for groups of different sizes. You can enjoy a nice buffet with various kinds of meat, vegetables and fish – but they also have a menu you can always choose from. The documenta is one of the biggest exhibitions for contemporary art held every five years for 100 days in Kassel, Germany. At more than 30 locations indoor and outdoor you can discover art works and temporary restaurants and bars enhance the city. In 2017 the 14th documenta is held in Αθήνα, Greece and Kassel, Germany – the central exhibition hall Fridericianum is filled with exhibits from museums in Greece.

The AquaPark in the small village Hemfurth belonging to Edertal, Germany is a water playground next to the dam of the Edersee water reservoir. If you arrive at the village you’ll have to park your car in a large car park outside the village (for a small fee) and walk five minutes to the dam. There a fountain creates a small artificial river that cools down dogs and the feet of children. Continue reading “AquaPark”
The second largest water reservoir in Germany with a water surface of 11.8 squarekilometers can be found in the federal state of Hesse. The river Eder is stopped by a 48 meters high dam built between 1908 and 1914. It is used to supply the Mittellandkanal with water to assure that ships can transport goods from the Ruhrgebiet to Berlin, Germany. The area around the Edersee belongs to the natural reserve Kellerwald-Edersee which offers different opportunities to have a nice time. Continue reading “The Edersee”
