We wanted to visit places in Köln and Bonn, Germany. Therefore we decided for a hotel in between: the H+ Hotel in Brühl. It is a former Ramada hotel now belonging to this new hotel chain. It states to be a four star hotel but it feels to be a bit less. Nevertheless we had a pleasant stay. Continue reading “Between Cologne and Bonn”
Rheinauenpark
If you need some fresh air and a walk in the sun at Bonn, Germany the Freizeitpark Rheinaue might be the right place. It is a green area outside of the city directly at the river Rhein. You’ll find vast green fields, small playgrounds, an artificial lake with boats, a Japanese garden, a restaurant and a beer garden. Continue reading “Rheinauenpark”
Kids and grown-ups love it so
If you trace back the roots of the famous gummibears you’ll end up at Bonn, Germany (HARIBO=Hans Riegel, Bonn). At the location of the former factory you’ll find the factory outlet shop where you can buy plenty of candy. Not all kinds they produce but a vast amount. Continue reading “Kids and grown-ups love it so”
Tropengewächshaus
The city of Witzenhausen, Germany is a small one – but it contains a remote location of the university of Kassel. As a part of this you can find a tropical greenhouse close to the city center often referred to as “Tropengewächshaus” but officially called “Gewächshaus für tropische Nutzpflanzen” (greenhouse for tropical agricultural crops). Continue reading “Tropengewächshaus”
Schinkels Brauhaus
It is a brewery, but a special one. At Schinkels Brauhaus at Witzenhausen, Germany they produce beer from ecologically produced ingredients only. You can taste it there and the restaurant doesn’t serve the traditional high-caloric, unhealthy brewery-food normally served at these places. Continue reading “Schinkels Brauhaus”
Hellas!
It is maybe the smallest and most narrow Greek restaurant in the city center of Göttingen, Germany: the restaurant Hellas in the Kurze-Geismar-Straße. You should therefore better reserve a table if you want to eat there – but if you’re lucky you might even get a table spontaneously in the rear part behind the bar. Continue reading “Hellas!”
Grundbachtal
One of the nicest walks I made near Hann. Münden, Germany! You can follow a small river from where it runs into river Werra up the hill to its sources. On the way there are small waterfalls, natural small ponds and you have to cross the river multiple times on improvised wooden and stone bridges.
Easter fire
The tradition of making a big fire at Easter is widespread throughout Germany. When I was young I never joined one of these events. I was always living in a city and these fires mostly take place at the villages around and are organized by the local volunteer firefighters. Continue reading “Easter fire”
Fuhrmannstein & Schutzhütte
The Fuhrmannstein is a rock placed at a crossroad in the forest near the Rinderstall in Hann. Münden, Germany. It has been placed there in 1926 in memory of Karl Fuhrmann. He was head of the local hikers association, owned a cigar factory and was the creator of the local youth hostel. Continue reading “Fuhrmannstein & Schutzhütte”
Wald- und Jagdmuseum
It is the smallest museum in Hann. Münden, Germany – the Wald- und Jagdmuseum (forest and hunting museum) next to the Rinderstall in the middle of the forest. It is just one room in a hut. But it contains a lot stuffed animals, mushrooms and information about the forest. Continue reading “Wald- und Jagdmuseum”
