The Grote Markt is the main market place of Bruges, Belgium and a good starting point for a visit of the town. Directly attached to it you’ll find the Belfort and many old houses. The Belfort
At the Grote Markt of Bruges, Belgium you can find a big tower called the Belfort, integrated into other buildings. It is 83 meters high and was built during the 13th century CE. In Bruges
I went to Bruges, Belgium as part of my roadtrip in 2012 and was really enchanted by the wonderful atmosphere of the city. I didn’t have too many sights on my list and simple walked through the enlightened city at night and along the canals – giving the city center a feeling of Venice, Italy or Amsterdam, the Netherlands – in daytime. Fortress, Mozart & Bosna
For travelling to work every day I chose to get a BahnCard 100 from Deutsche Bahn, giving me the opportunity to travel for free on weekends throughout Germany. Two destinations came to my mind because they allow the longest journeys for me because the railway stations located in other countries officially belong to the German network: Basel, Switzerland and Salzburg, Austria. Festung Hohensalzburg
The fortress Hohensalzburg is a fortification high above Salzburg, Austria. It is the town’s landmark located on the Festungsberg and Europes biggest fortification from the 11th century and Austrias most visited tourist sight outside of Wien. Weekend in Switzerland
The railway station Basel-Badischer Bahnhof is a station in Basel, Switzerland officially belonging to the German railway network. That is why I could reach it with my BahnCard 100 free of charge. Fondation Beyeler
The Fondation Beyeler is a privately founded art museum in Basel, Switzerland. It is located a bit remote and you’ll have to use a bus to reach it. The building itself is very modern and opens with a permanent display of Monets Nympheas (like the works visible in the orangery in Paris, France) and behind a glas window there is an artificial pool with real water lilies and water lilies created by water streams – a nice combination. The Kunstmuseum
The Kunstmuseum Basel is an art museum in Basel, Switzerland located in the city center close to river Rhein. It contains 4.000 images, sculptures and installations belonging to visual arts. Cathedral of Basel
The Basler Münster is the most important church in Basel, Switzerland. It is made of red freestone and is easily recognizable because of the geometric forms on its muticolored roof. The town lean towers can be seen from many parts of the city. It has been built between the years 1019 and 1500 CE in gothic style. Today it is used for protestant devine service.
