Praça de Sé

A good starting point for a visit to São Paulo is the Praça de Sé – the historic center of the city. It is a nice place surrounded by palms, often crowded and it has seen mighty demonstrations (like for free elections in 1984) in the past. You can get here easily by metro, using the station naturally called .

Don’t let yourself be disturbed by illegal street vendors. When you have finished enjoying the square, make sure to enter the Catedral Metropolitana de São Paulo, also called Catedral da Sé at one end of the place. It has been built in neo-gothic style in 1591 and has enough space for 8000 believers.
