The Neckarstadion (today also called Mercedes-Benz-Arena) is home to the VfB Stuttgart and the heart of the Neckarpark – an entertainment area within Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt where the Cannstatter Wasen (a festival in autumn) takes place and you can find various concert halls and museums.

A museum I visit quite frequently is the Städel Museum at the Frankfurter Museumsufer – directly opposite to the city center, next to the river Main. The Städelsche Kunstinstitut und Städtische Galerie (correctly named) houses 3.000 paintings, 1.000 typically on exhibition.

Nowadays burger bars a spreading like mushrooms throughout German cities. But this one was already there before the hype and is kind of special: Die Kuh, die lacht in Frankfurt am Main, close to the old European Central Bank (Willy-Brandt-Platz).

The main railway station of Frankfurt am Main, Germany is a hub I pass pretty often. As it is a large railway station that can be confusing at first, some hints might be useful. An important characteristic is, that the station is one of few dead-end-stations of major cities in Germany; others are Stuttgart, München, Wiesbaden, Leipzig and Kiel.

Looking for a cocktail bar in Hannover? The Spandau Projekt isn’t a secret hint anymore, but always worth a visit. Located in the Nordstadt of Hannover, you can get excellent cocktails and good, priceworthy food. The venue has a well styled design and is close to the garden section of Hannover.

Named after the Spanish town Salamanca this alternative bar in Göttingen, Germany, is located in the Gartenstraße – a residential area. The international Airport of Rio de Janeiro carries different names: Antônio Carlos Jobim, Tom Jobim and Galeão; the shortcode GIG isn’t self-explaining, too. It is located in Zona Norte on an island (Ilha da Governador), 17 km away from the city center.

On my last day in Rio de Janeiro, the two most favorite teams in Rio – Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas (Botafogo FR) and the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo (CR Flamengo) matched at Estádio do Maracanã. Of course I had to be there. So I chose the colours red and black (kind of strange for me) and went to support Flamengo (“mengo – mengo – mengo!“).

When arriving in Rio de Janeiro, I had mostly seen rural life in Brazil (exempt São Paulo). I had the image of the big bad city in mind, having read too many security advices from guidebooks and state authorities. And I had to get rid of this and to find out, that Rio de Janeiro is in fact the cidade maravilhosa (marvelous city).

I heard a lot about the Feijoada, a typical Brazilian meal; especially because FIFA tried to forbid selling it close to the venues of the world cup 2014. So I needed to try this stew of beans with meat, meat and … meat. Close to “my” metro station General Orsório in Ipanema I found a good restaurant that only serves this meal.
