When you’re travelling by train to Köln you might want to have a good hotel close to the railway station. I was struggling with that different times until I checked-in at the Savoy. It is located on the rear side of the main station and you need to exit towards the Breslauer Platz. From there it is only a short walk to the hotel entrance which makes life really easy.

The GHOTEL at Würzburg, Germany, is a hotel with good views: the skyscraper gives you a nice panorama because of its special shape. The location a bit outside of the city center is perfect if you travel by train. From the main railway station you’ll have to cross a park and after ten minutes you’re there.

The hotel Petka at Dubrovnik is a special case: it is recommended in modern tourist guides, but looks rather old-fashioned. It is in the non-touristy harbor area but good for tourists, because it is close to the cruise boat harbor and the bus terminal. You can enjoy more normal Croatian life but you’ll always need to take a bus to get to the ancient city center.

Only 300 meters away from the main railway station of Lëtzebuerg the Hôtel Perrin is a good place to stay for people travelling by train. It was built in 1932 and the Art Déco architecture combines well with the modern approach of the hotel. The heart of the hotel is the gentleman behind the desk who seems to speak every language of the modern world.

If you like to stay in the heart of the city, the boutique hotel Les Fleurs at София is a good choice. It is located directly at the boulevard Vitosha and it is conveniently reachable on foot from the Serdika metro station. Since the rise of the shopping centers in Bulgaria this main pedestrian street offers still some shops, but mostly restaurants and coffee bars.

I’m a major fan of the simplicity in combination with the quality of Motel One hotels. The one at Bruxelles, Belgium has two central advantages: first it is located on Rue Royal and in convenient walking distance to the Parc de Bruxelles, the Cathédrale des Saints Michel et Gudule and the Grote Markt. Second it has a large inner courtyard in which you can relax in the evenings, enjoy a last Belgian beer and to reflect on your day.

Choosing a hotel in Malta isn’t easy if you want to see the capital city but also travel around by rental car. Typically, I would book a hotel close to the city center of the capital, but Valletta is mostly free of cars and the space is extremely limited. A viable alternative is to find a hotel at Sliema with a car park as the neighboring city has a particularly good ferry boat connection.

If you need a hotel at the city center of Λάρνακα, the Livadhiotis is a desirable choice. It is located a convenient walk away from the beach, the St. Lazarus church and the Larnaka castle. Around the hotel you’ll find many bars and restaurants; the hotel itself offers spacious rooms with good balconies. I enjoyed having a room facing the quiet inner courtyard.

Λευκωσία offers a lot of hotels, for sure. But if you want to stay inside the ancient city walls of the capital city there is only a small selection in the southwest. The Centrum hotel is a viable choice as it is close to the Ledras street leading through the city and to the occupied north and it is surrounded by numerous restaurants and bars.

Checking-in at the Mayfair hotel at Πάφος is like entering the party zone. It is one of these classic all-inclusive hotels that people book that want to hang out at the pool all day, need children’s entertainment and like all food and drinks already paid. Unfortunately, I only found at about this when reaching the hotel.
