The Matsubaya is a traditional Japanese ryokan – a guest house for travelers – in Kyōto, Japan. Those guest houses measure the size of the room in tatami mats. I had different hotels in Αθήνα, Greece, most of them not being special. My worst choice was the first: I booked a cheap hotel of a world wide chain in Omonia, not knowing that this is the area for prostitution and drugs. For sightseeing in Roma, Italy the Aran Mantegna Hotel is a bit too remote. I came here for a scientific conference held at the hotel and for that it was absolutely perfect. A nice design hotel with all necessary facilities.

Most iconic building in Travemünde (belonging to Lübeck, Germany) is the Hotel Maritim. It is the only skyscraper in that area, surrounded by small buildings and located directly at the sea. When big ships enter the river Trave it looks like they are crashing into the building.

When we went to Bydgoszcz, Poland we needed a cheap hotel to simply have a bed during the short nights. A friend from Poland checked us in at the hotel and restaurant Zatoka in the center of the city, close to the river Brda.

The Sawanoya Ryokan in Tōkyō, Japan was my first traditional ryokan hotel ever. It still has the spirit of past times, you’re welcomed by a very friendly family and the best of all are the two Onsen baths.

The Suidōbashi Grand Hotel is a typical hotel in Tōkyō, Japan. During my visit to a scientific conference I was staying here and had the smallest hotel room of all times – only a bed fitted into with very little space surrounding it.
