İstanbul Havalimanı

It is the new, vast and shiny airport of Turkeys capital city: the İstanbul Havalimanı. It replaced the old Atatürk International Airport in April 2019 and has three terminals and four runways. The airport is modern, beautiful and flights often arrive after a nice loop over Karadeniz. Disadvantages are that the airport is very large so that you’ll have to walk very long distances and that it is much further away from the city centre than the old one.

Шереме́тьево

Sheremetyevo International Airport, Москва́

The Sheremetyevo Alexander S. Pushkin International Airport (Междунаро́дный аэропо́рт Шереме́тьево, SVO) is the largest airport of Москва́ and Russia. It is named after the next small city (Sheremetyevo, which is linked with Russian aristocracy) and the nationally important poet Alexander Pushkin. It handles 40 million passengers every year. Шереме́тьево is the most important gateway to the capital city but also an important hub with many interconnecting flights.

Aerfort Bhaile Átha Cliath

A nice medium-sized airport located 10 kilometres north of Dublin, Ireland. The Aerfort Bhaile Átha Cliath was opened in 1940 and welcomes around 30.000.000 travellers each year. It is the home base of Aer Lingus and some cheap airlines like famous Ryanair. The airport is separated into two interconnected terminals and it is not a long walk between them.

Aeroporti Ndërkombëtar i Prishtinës Adem Jashari

The international airport of Prishtinë, Kosovo (airport code PRN) dates back to the year 1965 and is located 15 kilometers south of the city. It is named after Adem Jashari, one of the initiators of the liberation army UÇK. It is one of these smaller and hassle-free airports of the Balkans with short ways to walk and fast check-in, passport control and security check. You’ll find shops, coffee bars and restaurants here like in every good international airport.

Vilniaus oro uostas (VNO)

It is the airport with the most unexpected and beautiful entrance building ever: the airport of Vilnius, Lithuania (Vilniaus oro uostas, airport code VNO). The airport is located seven kilometers south of the city center and was built in 1932. It has two runways and transports approximitely 3.7 million passengers every year. VNO is a small airport and you don’t need to arrive too early before your flight – but waiting times for baggage drop-off can be quite long if you arrive at the wrong time.

Lennart Meri Tallinna Lennujaam (TLL)

The lennujaam (airport) of Tallinn, Estonia is a fantastic small airport. The people there are relaxed and quite, the terminal building is short, the shops are nice and the waiting areas creative and really inviting. It is only a short way to the tram stop (line 4 stops here and brings you to the city center) and when standing outside the airport you’re still standing directly at the airfield and can watch plains.

Aerodrom Podgorica (TGD)

The Aerodrom Podgorica is the small airport of the capital city of Montenegro. It is located nine kilometers outside of Podgorica, Montenegro and can only be reached by taxi, rental car, and an hourly running bus. But as the costs for a taxi ride to city are about 6 Euros this is pretty acceptable.

Aeroporti Ndërkombëtar i Tiranës Nënë Tereza (TIA)

The airport of the capital city of Albania is located seventeen kilometers outside of Tirana. It is the biggest airport of the region (which doesn’t mean that it is actually big), has one runway and transports nearly 3 million passengers a year. It was built from 1954 on and was always also used by the Albanian Airforce. In 2003 it was renamed in honor of Mother Teresa who’s parents came from Albania and who is a national hero.

Cagliari International Airport Elmas (CAG)

The Cagliari International Airport (CAG) located at Elmas, Italy close to Cagliari is the only international airport of southern Sardegna. It is a rather small airport focused on tourism and using it is pretty easy. The airport has a small selection of souvenir shops, bars and restaurants – but covers all your needs. The Aeroporto Humberto Delgado (formerly Aeroporto da Portela) is the most important airport of Lisboa, Portugal and the main hub of airline TAP.
