Heidelberg, Germany is a wonderful city. If you take a walk through the shopping zone and the old city center you’ll arrive at a place directly underneath the mountain Königstuhl. A mountain railway takes you to the beautiful and romantic castle ruin of Heidelberg und you can go further on to the top of the mountain. The restaurant “Der Windbeutelkönig” is located at the barrier lake made from river Oker and belongs to the regional district of Goslar, Germany. It is an old fashioned restaurant that serves only cream puff – in lots of variations, with blueberries, strawberries, ice cream, but also with herring or salmon. The “Iberger Tropfsteinhöhle” is a flowstone cave in Iberg near Bad Grund, Germany. It consists of a museum in front of the mountain (showing exhibits from a smaller cave), a small museum within the access tunnel and the flowstone cave itself. The cave is rather short, it is a circle course and you have to climb 100 old stone stairs – it is used for tourism since 1911. Continue reading “Iberger Tropfsteinhöhle”
The Familienpark Sottrum is a theme park located in Sottrum, belonging to Holle, close to Hildesheim, Germany. It is special as it doesn’t contain any electric devices (apart from two air pumps for inflatable jumpers). On 18 hectares you can find different theme locations and paths – from water playgrounds to floats and climbing walls.

If you want to enjoy a nice view on the city center of Hann. Münden, Germany – there is no place like the Tillyschanze. It is a 25 meters high watchtower located within the Reinhardswald, 90 meters above the city. It was created by a commitee of citizens of Hann. Münden between the years 1881 and 1885 – commemorating the conquest of the city by Tilly in 1626.

The “Alte Werrabrücke” (old bridge over river Werra) is one of the oldest stone bridges in northern Germany. It is located at the northern end of the city center of Hann. Münden, Germany and leads to the the city quarter Blume, where also the Weserliedanlage is located.

The “Nadelwehr” in Hann. Münden, Germany is a traditional barrage used to higher the level of the river Werra. It consists of wooden needles put into the river close to the watergate and the old Werra bridge. In the past this technique was used to raise the water level for ships or to use the energy of the water for mills.

Miniature railways are a children’s dream and always create happiness. One of the biggest I’ve seen so far can be found in Wiehe in Eastern Germany, close to Sangerhausen and the A38. It offers 12.000 m² of miniature railway exhibition. In 1748 the painter Bernardo Bellotto – better known as Canaletto – painted the famous picture “Dresden From the Right Bank of the Elbe Below the Augustus Bridge“.
