Madurodam

Madurodam, Den Haag

The miniature world Madurodam is one of the most famous sights in Den Haag, The Netherlands. Behind a dam you can find 300 miniature representations of well-known buildings from The Netherlands. The area is 18000 m2 large and was opened in 1952 to honor George Maduro who died in the concentration camp of Dachau, Germany.

The girl with a pearl earring

Mauritshuis, Den Haag

The Mauritshuis is an art museum located in the center of Den Haag, The Netherlands. It has been built from 1633 on as a nobility palace at a lake in the center of the city and serves as a museum from 1822 on. A week at the CeBIT

Most people in the world know the CeBIT – the famous computer fair in Hannover, Germany, originally named “Centrum der Büro- und Informationstechnik“. Dortmunder U

Dortmunder U, Dortmund, Germany

The Dortmunder U in Dortmund, Germany is a skyscraper used as a cultural center. It was built until 1927 as a cellar for the Dortmunder Union Brauerei. In 1994 the brewery moved out and the building was later bought by the city. Continue reading “Dortmunder U”

From Alto Adige to Veneto

When I was a child we were travelling every year to the same flat in the same village: Dorf Tirol near Merano in Tirolo, Italy. At the end of my twenties my brother and I decided to return for a short visit. Therefore we took the train from München, Germany via Brennero to Bolzano, Italy and continued to Merano. Ponte di Rialto

Ponte di Rialto, Venezia

The Ponte di Rialto is the most famous bridge in Venezia, Italy. It gave its name to many, many Italian restaurants all over the world. It spans the Canale Grande and connects San Marco with San Polo. It is 48 meters high, 22 meters wide and it allows only ships not higher than 7.5 meters to pass. Continue reading “Ponte di Rialto”

Torre dei Lamberti, Verona

The Torre dei Lamberti is probably the best view point for gathering an overview on Verona, Italy. It is located in the city center close to the Piazza delle Erbe and the Piazza dei Signori. Scala della Ragione

Scala della Ragione, Verona

Normally stair cases are not worth a visit but the Scala della Ragione in Verona, Italy is a special case. It belongs to the Palazzo della Ragione in the center of the city and is built from red Venetian marble. It connects the old market with the upper level of the palace.
