Schloß Berlepsch is a castle in the no man’s land surrounding Witzenhausen, Germany (close to Göttingen and Hann. Münden). Situated within the hills along the river Werra it can be seen from near and far. It has been built from 1369 on and has been invaded by several armies crossing the country during the centuries. Today it is a well preserved castle still owned by the family that once built it.
Hot as hell
The Rias Baixas is a Spanish restaurant within the city quarter Linden of Hannover, Germany – close to the old Hanomag plant, once producing railway locomotives, motor lorries and construction machines. It offers food from Galicia; wonderful tapas, fish and meat. And of course some Estrella beer to make the evening complete.
Konnopke’s Imbiß
The culinary highlight of the German capital is of course – Currywurst. And there is no place like Konnopke to taste it. The traditional diner is situated at Schönhauser Allee directly underneath the elevated railway. Take a ride to Eberswalder Straße and order a “Menü weiß“: sausage, curry sauce, fries and mayonnaise. It all started in 1930 with selling sausages from mobile cookers; a well-established enterprise.
Pazzi x Pizza
Maybe the best pizza in Berlin, Germany. The friendly Italian guys challenge your language skills in this small eatery in Neukölln (though they even serve you if your Italiano isn’t the best). And they make a very tasty pizza with sometimes quite exotic toppings. Get a slice or two and use the nearby Tempelhofer Feld to burn the calories afterwards!
The Z.a.K.
Bars and restaurants come and go, but the Z.a.K. (located close to the market place in Göttingen, Germany) is an institution. It opened in 1993, has a warm and welcoming atmosphere because of the wooden interior and the dishes are named after classic movies – I guess the names are still the same as 20 years ago. You can also sit outside and watch what is going on on the Wochenmarkt.
Listening to Fidel Castro
The bar and restaurant Villa Cuba is located close to the old market place of Göttingen, Germany. When you enter this place at the Zindelstraße you’ll find a beautifully decorated bar in Cuban style. The menu isn’t that long but it covers some good dishes from Cuba and the Carribean – especially the starters are great.
Hiking for gyros
During the last years I’ve not visited Potis that often, because it is quite remote for people used to the short distances in Göttingen – but I recently found out that this was a wrong decision. You can find the Greek restaurant at the upper part of Kreuzbergring in the east of Göttingen.
Beautiful views
The street adress tells everything: Schöne Aussicht, beautiful views. The bar Bolero is situated between the city center of Kassel and the Karlsaue park (directly next to the New Gallery of Art) and there you can enjoy a beer (especially: Astra from Hamburg, Germany), some cocktails or – what seems to be a specialty: good burgers.
Reward yourself
Named after the god of the sea in Greek mythology, the restaurant Poseidon is part of the Badeparadies in Göttingen, Germany – but it also accessible without getting your swimming trunks on. Before this pool and sauna has been opened at the Eiswiese in 1998, the restaurant was already part of the old public indoor swimming pool in the city center (close to the Leinekanal).
The White Pergola
If you’re at the shore of Israel, you definitly need to taste some seafood. A very good place for this is the old harbour of Tel Aviv-Yafo. It has been transformed into an area with lots of restaurants and is very vivid in the evening hours. A nice restaurant is The White Pergola (Hasuka Halevana) at the old port basin.
