We were stranded in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany during a fair in Essen, Germany. And there is nothing more important after a stressful fair day then to have a beer and something to eat. That is why we were searching on the Internet for bars and restaurants in Mülheim – and not expecting to much. Franky’s bar popped up as a recommendation and it was worth the visit. Cappa Café
Tired of walking around in the city center of Verona, Italy? In need for a quite place to relax, have a coffee break or something to eat? The Cappa Café is a coffee bar and restaurant located nicely close to the river Adige in the northern part of the city. You’ll get some vitello tonnato (veal with tuna sauce and capers) or a sprizz aperol in the cosy atmosphere of this place and in summer times you can sit outside with a view on the river.
The Centrum
The Centrum in Erfurt, Germany is a music club in the capital city of the federal state of Thuringia. It is located close to the main railway station and the Juri-Gagarin-Ring. It is a small but wonderful place for concerts directly in the city center of Erfurt – easily reachable on foot.

Wednesday. Every damn Wednesday. I have the feeling of having spent years in my life at the Thanner’s Tag & Nachtschänke in Göttingen, Germany. It is a rather dark but comfy bar directly at the Wilhelmsplatz. I was there every week during school and study times and while I was active in politics I told people that I would have my weekly consultation hours here – they were used frequently.
The Batschkapp
The Batschkapp in Frankfurt am Main, Germany is a legend: a left-wing rock music club founded in 1976. It was first located in Eschersheim and moved to a new place in the city district Seckbach in 2013. There it has been enlarged to a modern music club which can also host big concerts – and even the old Batschkapp has already been a stage for R.E.M., Nirvana and Die Toten Hosen.
Little Italy
The Bar Centrale is a wonderful Italian bar in München, Germany. It is located close to the city center near to the Hofbräuhaus. From the outside you wouldn’t expect what’s inside: a traditional bar and coffee bar in the front and a small room to sit down and enjoy some pasta in the back. The staff is all-Italian, the coffee is classy and it is a good hint to stop by for an Aperol Sprizz.
Just a Guinness or two
The Irish Pub is one of my favourite bars in Göttingen, Germany. In the summer a nice beer garden invites you to enjoy a Guinness, Strongbow or Cider under the trees within the center of the town. When the weather conditions are bad or in the evenings, there are two floors inside with a dark but very hospitable atmosphere.
The Z.a.K.
Bars and restaurants come and go, but the Z.a.K. (located close to the market place in Göttingen, Germany) is an institution. It opened in 1993, has a warm and welcoming atmosphere because of the wooden interior and the dishes are named after classic movies – I guess the names are still the same as 20 years ago. You can also sit outside and watch what is going on on the Wochenmarkt.
Bittersweet symphony
Let’s face it: the Tangente has already seen its best days – but the club is still worth a visit. The fact that the kids nowadays rather gather at the EinsB, the Savoy or the JT-Keller might also be an advantage – leaving back a relaxed crowd on the dancefloor.
Listening to Fidel Castro
The bar and restaurant Villa Cuba is located close to the old market place of Göttingen, Germany. When you enter this place at the Zindelstraße you’ll find a beautifully decorated bar in Cuban style. The menu isn’t that long but it covers some good dishes from Cuba and the Carribean – especially the starters are great.
