Suspension railway

Suspension railway, Wuppertal

If you speak about Wuppertal, Germany with a typical German he won’t have too much in mind concerning this city. Maybe he knows the strange joke called “Der Lottogewinner” by Loriot (also called Vicco von Bülow), ending with a confused pensioner thinking that his daughter will open up a mens fashion boutique together with the pope in Wuppertal. Most probably he will only know about the iconic suspension railway leading through the town.

Il Convento

Ristorante Il Convento, Kassel

Definitely my favorite restaurant in Kassel, Germany. The “Il Convento” is located close to the Königsplatz and is situated within the old Garnisonskirche (garrison church), which creates a unique atmosphere. The staff cooks traditional Italian food, they behave like Italians, curse in italiano and it might also happen that you have a waiter that doesn’t understand German.

Centered shower

Elbe, Dresden

If you are travelling by train to Dresden, Germany the Pullman Dresden Newa hotel might be a good choice for you. It is located directly in front of the new main railway station in between high modern buildings that close the gap between the old city center and the railway station. You have to walk some minutes to get to the interesting parts of the city – but because of the railway station the public transport to and from here is really good. My company booked a room twice for me at the InterCity Hotel close to the main railway station. This has some advantages and disadvantages – it is easy to reach but therefore you are in an environment that isn’t that beautiful. Continue reading “Good location, bad location”

Kissing the Gänseliesel

Kissing the Gänseliesel

In this time I did a lot of scientific work, taught students and wrote my PhD thesis about the usage of mobile Internet within enterprises. This all not only brought me a nifty book for my bookshelf, but also – according to ancient customs – a nice trip to the goose girl, the landmark of Göttingen.

Sylt

List, Sylt, Germany

Sylt is the biggest island in Northern Frisia. It is located in Germany, close to the border to Denmark and can be reached by train and by car using a train-based shuttle to the island. Sylt has a very beautiful landscape but I don’t like it too much because it is the German island of the rich. Continue reading “Sylt”
