The hotel Solace in Puerto Varas, Chile is the last overnight stop I made at the country. It is a very nice and plain hotel on a small hill at the center of Puerto Varas. You can easily walk to the city center from here and you’ll have nice views on the city; you’ll have a car park (which is important, as the rest of the city doesn’t offer much parking lots) – and it is very comfortable to explore the city frome here.
Hotel Encanto del rio
The hotel Encanto del rio is a typical and kind of old-fashioned hotel in Valdivia, Chile. Its main features are that it is located close to the river Callecalle, has some public parking lots in front of the hotel and you can easily walk on foot to the fish market (where the river cruises start) and the city center. On this way you will find some spots where sea lions enjoy the sun. I could watch them for hours…
Hotel Malalhue
The hotel Malalhue in Pucón, Chile is nothing special. It is a nice everyday hotel at the main road of Pucón – a town close to Lago Villarrica. When leaving the hotel there are only other hotels around; and maybe a shopping center for daily needs. Pucón is a town that has been built for relaxation, for canoeing, for canopy.
Trailanqui lodge
If you want to stay at the Trailanqui lodge close to Temuco, Chile you should definitely have a GPS system. I didn’t have one and I prepared myself with satellite images to find the road there. In the end I missed the right crossing and had to search quite hard for the hotel while it was raining heavily. And of course: I had to overtake some natives riding their horses on the street.
Hotel Terrano
The city of Concepción, Chile has been destroyed by a natural disaster. What has been built up afterwards might remind you on New York or Legoland. Strictly quadratic shapes and the life at a modern and clean city. Within you’ll find the hotel Terrano – a very good hotel with an underground car park that is much to small and narrow.
Casa Chueca
Wow. Simply wow. An Austrian couple went to Talca, Chile and bought some land to open a harbourage for travellers. Today there are different courtyards with small houses (named after famous places in South America) attached where you can stay. Every evening a bell calls all current inhabitants for a vegetarian dinner. A very special place that has been built like an ideal settlement and playground.
Hotel Tierra y Vino
The hotel Tierra y Vino is a very good and small hotel at the heart of Santa Cruz, Chile. It has only few rooms that are placed around a small garden with a pool at the center. The host is very friendly and organizes local tours like visits of wineries for you. A place to relax not far away from the not very touristic city center within the vineyards.
Hotel Principado de Asturias
The hotel Principado de Asturias is a middle-class hotel in Santiago de Chile, Chile. It is a good place for a first night in a foreign country and it’s only some minutes from here to walk to the city center. The nearest metro station is Baquedano and in front of the hotel there is long stretched green park.
White gloves
When I was looking for a seminar in contract and IT law I decided for a course in Köln, Germany – and was booked in at the Hotel im Wasserturm. It was the conference hotel and I wouldn’t have accepted it otherwise. It is a four-star hotel beyond the level of exclusivity I like. It is beautifully located in the old water tower in the southwest of the city center – next to the Agrippabad. Continue reading “White gloves”
Close to the Frauenkirche
I’ve been many times to Dresden, Germany – for seminars, events and meetings with business partners. The INNSIDE directly in the city center was maybe the best hotel there. It is only some meters away from the now restored beautiful Frauenkirche and from the upper level of the hotel you can also directly see it. From there it is an easy walk to the Zwinger, the Semperoper, the Fürstenzug and the river Elbe. Continue reading “Close to the Frauenkirche”
