When I was looking for a seminar in contract and IT law I decided for a course in Köln, Germany – and was booked in at the Hotel im Wasserturm. It was the conference hotel and I wouldn’t have accepted it otherwise. It is a four-star hotel beyond the level of exclusivity I like. It is beautifully located in the old water tower in the southwest of the city center – next to the Agrippabad. Continue reading “White gloves”
Close to the Frauenkirche
I’ve been many times to Dresden, Germany – for seminars, events and meetings with business partners. The INNSIDE directly in the city center was maybe the best hotel there. It is only some meters away from the now restored beautiful Frauenkirche and from the upper level of the hotel you can also directly see it. From there it is an easy walk to the Zwinger, the Semperoper, the Fürstenzug and the river Elbe. Continue reading “Close to the Frauenkirche”
Hotel Empress Zoe
I found it on Lonely Planet. And yes: if it is on Lonely Planet it isn’t probably a secret hint and quiet place. But it was! Maybe I was only there in the right time of the year. The Hotel Empress Zoe is a wonderful hotel in Sultanahmet, the touristic corner of Istanbul, Turkey – only a five minutes walk from Hagia Sophia.
Brunch, weddings & seminars
The Waldhotel Schäferberg in Espenau, Germany is a hotel in the outskirts of Kassel. It is located at the federal road B3 between Vellmar and the airport Kassel-Calden. The Waldhotel is famous for its brunch, big family festivities and corporate seminars. It has a huge hall, a restaurant and a bar. Most people get here by car but there is also a bus going from Kassel. Continue reading “Brunch, weddings & seminars”
Centered shower
If you are travelling by train to Dresden, Germany the Pullman Dresden Newa hotel might be a good choice for you. It is located directly in front of the new main railway station in between high modern buildings that close the gap between the old city center and the railway station. You have to walk some minutes to get to the interesting parts of the city – but because of the railway station the public transport to and from here is really good. Continue reading “Centered shower”
Good location, bad location
Choosing a good hotel in Frankfurt, Germany isn’t always easy. Especially when there is a big fair some hotels are often booked a long time in advance and cost a lot of money. My company booked a room twice for me at the InterCity Hotel close to the main railway station. This has some advantages and disadvantages – it is easy to reach but therefore you are in an environment that isn’t that beautiful. Continue reading “Good location, bad location”
Hotel Nacional de Cuba
The Hotel Nacional de Cuba located at the Malecón in La Habana, Cuba is a national institution – and was for me the best location for my 30th birthday. It was opened in 1930, closed after the revolution and only used to host diplomats and government officials until 1991 when Cuba reopened for tourists. Continue reading “Hotel Nacional de Cuba”
Hotel Los Jazmines
The Hotel Los Jazmines in Viñales, Cuba offers the best views of the island. All rooms have balconies with rocking chairs directed towards the mogotes – isolated hills that kept standing when the rest of the karstic area was lowered by water floating underneath. Continue reading “Hotel Los Jazmines”
Hotel Moka Las Terrazas
The Hotel Moka is an eco-hotel in the region of Pinar del Río, Cuba. It is located within the Complejo Las Terrazas, a wonderful biosphere reserve including lakes, an old coffee plantation and natural pools. Something special: You’ll have to pay a road toll to reach the area. Continue reading “Hotel Moka Las Terrazas”
Hotel La Unión
The Hotel La Unión is located in the heart of Cienfuegos, Cuba – not far away from the nice Plaza des Armas. Spanish colonial flair is not only visible throughout the whole city but also in this hotel, which fits perfectly to the town. I enjoyed being at the center and not in the outskirts (which happend often on my trip). Continue reading “Hotel La Unión”
