During the last years a lot of bars were coming and going in the Ritterplan. The street is simply a less crowded street without direct access to the pedestrian zone. People don’t come here by accident. But now there is a restaurant that is here to stay: the Abessina, serving food from Ethiopia and Eritrea and thereby closing a gap within the already broad variety of restaurants in Göttingen.

Once upon a time the “Eiswiese” was, what its name refers to: A meadow that was often flooded by nearby river Leine and in winter times the water on the lawn got frozen. When I was a child – in summer time – wood and tools were delivered to that place and we were constructing houses just for fun in our school holidays.

Göttingen is a university town where the students account for one fifth of the population – and therefore has the highest bar density in northern Germany. So you have a big variety to choose from, but if it comes to having a nice breakfast or drinking some cocktails there is no way around the Esprit.
Named after the Spanish town Salamanca this alternative bar in Göttingen, Germany, is located in the Gartenstraße – a residential area. They serve chorizo, patatas bravas, tapas, Spanish wine and different vegan and vegetarian dishes. The location is a bit shabby as normal for left-wing sites. Not a recommendation for everyone, but a place where you might find me on a Friday evening.

The Lokhalle in Göttingen, Germany is what its name refers to: the location of the former Eisenbahnausbesserungswerk Göttingen. Once upon a time, trains were brought into this long hall to be repaired. After the workshop was closed, this place was empty for a very long time – until it became an important entertainment center.

Nearly five years of my life I spent as a research associate at the Georg-August-Universität of Göttingen. In this time I did a lot of scientific work, taught students and wrote my PhD thesis about the usage of mobile Internet within enterprises. This all not only brought me a nifty book for my bookshelf, but also – according to ancient customs – a nice trip to the goose girl, the landmark of Göttingen.
