There are not many train stations that are directly located at the shore. One of these dead-end stations is the terminus of Lindau, Germany. It is very impractical but of historical value. If you leave a train here you only have to walk approximately 100 meters to get to the harbour of Lindau and have a wonderful view on Lake Constance.
bo|ra
The “bo|ra” is a great spa close to the Lake Constance in Radolfzell, Germany. It’s a complex consisting of a hotel, a sauna and a beach area. Its name is a combination of the first letters of “Bodensee” (the German name of Lake Constance) and “Radolfzell“, the city the spa is located in. I came here because I really love Japanese spas and here they’ve built a quite traditional Onsen (hot spring).
Lake Constance
Konstanz, Germany is a very good starting point to discover Lake Constance (in Germany called “Bodensee“). It is a very big lake with a surface of 536 km² and river Rhein is running through it. Three countries have access to the waters: Switzerland, Austria (with the town of Bregenz and the theatre at the shore) and Germany with Lindau, Friedrichshafen and Konstanz as the most important cities.

The Black Forest (“Schwarzwald“) in Germany is a legend: because of the original cuckoo clocks, the special and very tasty ham and the strange outfits the natives wear on public holidays. And it is a very interesting landscape you can best enjoy from the coaches of the “Schwarzwaldbahn” – a railway crossing the Black Forest.
Heidelberg castle
The castle of Heidelberg, Germany is well known to the world – because of its beauty and because of the big amount of US soldiers stationed in nearby Ramstein that visited it. It is first mentioned in 1225 and was until 1697 seat of the Palatine prince-electors. Today it is a wonderful ruin in Renaissance style made of red freestone.
Brauhaus “Zum Rammelsberg”
Within the district ‘Wilhelmshöhe‘ of Kassel, Germany, you can find the brewery ‘Zum Rammelsberg’ – a small brewery with good food and a nice beer garden. In fact, they are serving beer of Kassels Hütt brewery (located in Baunatal!) which is only available in northern Hesse. A ‘Hütt naturtrüb‘ (unfiltered) is always a good choice!

Freiburg im Breisgau is a beautiful town in the south of Germany, very close to the border to France. I stopped here on my way to Marseille and got and returned a rental car here. Freiburg dates back to the year 1008, has about 220.000 inhabitants and is located at the river Dreisam.
Ishin Japanese Deli
When Germans think of sushi & co., they always think about high class food and restaurants. But in fact – sushi is some kind of street food in Japan. Ishin reflects this as a plain restaurant, decorated at a minimum level, long tables where might get to know someone new; and of course: absolutely great sushi and bento boxes. Try calpico, a strange looking but tasty soft drink.

When I was looking for a seminar in contract and IT law I decided for a course in Köln, Germany – and was booked in at the Hotel im Wasserturm. It was the conference hotel and I wouldn’t have accepted it otherwise. It is a four-star hotel beyond the level of exclusivity I like. It is beautifully located in the old water tower in the southwest of the city center – next to the Agrippabad. Continue reading “White gloves”
17 Hippies and a tent
The Kulturzelt in Kassel, Germany is an institution. Starting nearly 30 years ago every year a tent is set up in summer time at the Karlsaue, close to the river Fulda. Over some weeks different national and international music acts play there – sometimes with a free space for dancing and sometimes with chairs to relax with a bit more quiet music.
