The Amphitheater

The Amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen, Germany is a concert location directly at the Rhein-Herne-Kanal and within a nice park. It is also not too far away from Essen, Germany. The place is built in the shape of a classic amphitheatre but made of concrete. The stage is next to the water and the only place with a roof – you should therefore hope to have good weather conditions. We came here for an open air concert of a ska/punk band from Oberhausen and Mülheim an der Ruhr called “Sondaschule“. Continue reading “The Amphitheater”

The F-Haus

The F-Haus in Jena, Germany is a concert hall and event location located in the heart of the city, not far away from the JenTower. It is a theatre-like hall with a framed stage. About 200 events a year take place here. Continue reading “The F-Haus”

Tame monsters

The “Zentralmensa” is the biggest university canteen in Göttingen, Germany. It is operated by the Studentenwerk Göttingen and serves a lot of meals to students during daytime. Just playback

Town halls in Germany always seem to be from the 1970s and to be built out of washed-out concrete. The one in Gießen, Germany is no exception but it is well placed in the inner city center and has a very good infrastructure surrounding it. Try the car park at the city hall, if you arrive by car! The Centrum

The Centrum in Erfurt, Germany is a music club in the capital city of the federal state of Thuringia. It is located close to the main railway station and the Juri-Gagarin-Ring. It is a small but wonderful place for concerts directly in the city center of Erfurt – easily reachable on foot.

Unusual concert location

I’ve seen a lot of concert locations during the last months – but none of them seemed as odd as the Stadthalle in Göttingen, Germany. A much too high ceiling, a too bright atmosphere, medium quality sound, people sitting on the upper floor and a supporting act playing in front of a plain white banner. Not the best preconditions for a nice evening.

The Batschkapp

The Batschkapp in Frankfurt am Main, Germany is a legend: a left-wing rock music club founded in 1976. It was first located in Eschersheim and moved to a new place in the city district Seckbach in 2013. There it has been enlarged to a modern music club which can also host big concerts – and even the old Batschkapp has already been a stage for R.E.M., Nirvana and Die Toten Hosen.

Expo Plaza Festival

The Expo Plaza is the open space between TUI Arena (a concert hall and sports venue) and Deutscher Pavillion at the Expo park south east of Hannover. In the year 2000 the World Exhibition (EXPO 2000) took place here and nowadays the buildings and places are used for different purposes.

The MusikZentrum

If you’re visiting a concert in Hannover, Germany, there are a lot of venues you might go to. The MusikZentrum is north of the city center, close to the tracks of the railway. It is a small but good concert hall where you can enjoy different artists.

Where the trains were repaired

The Lokhalle in Göttingen, Germany is what its name refers to: the location of the former Eisenbahnausbesserungswerk Göttingen. Once upon a time, trains were brought into this long hall to be repaired. After the workshop was closed, this place was empty for a very long time – until it became an important entertainment center.
