Island hopping

Ηράκλειο, Greece

As a scientific paper of mine was accepted at a conference in Αθήνα, Greece, I had a problem: I went to this city before and had the feeling of already having seen everything relevant. Αθήνα is a city I also have some negative experiences with. Continue reading “Island hopping”

Olympic stadium

Olympic stadium, Αθήνα, Greece

Olympic games belong to Greece, for sure. The last ones held in Αθήνα, Greece were in 2004. You can find two important stadiums for the Olympic games in the city: the modern Spyros Louis for the last games and the old Panathinaiko stadium (“Kallimarmaro“) for the games in 1896.

Lykavittós

Lykavittós, Αθήνα, Greece

Getting to the Λυκαβηττός in the evening hours is maybe the most wonderful thing to do in Αθήνα, Greece. You can have a look on the enlightened city from the top of the hill, have a drink or dinner and walk down, if you like. Continue reading “Lykavittós”

Ermou

Ermou, Αθήνα, Greece

If you like to go shopping in Αθήνα, Greece the main pedestrian street, the Ermou, might be your first choice. It is 1,5 kilometers long and connects Syntagma square with Monastiraki. But when I was there a relevant number of shops was empty. Continue reading “Ermou”

Syntagma

Syntagma, Αθήνα, Greece

Syntagma is the Greek word for ‘constitution’. In Αθήνα, Greece it is mostly used to refer to Syntagma square, a place directly at the parliament of Greece. It is often used for political demonstrations and you can watch the guards in front of the parliament building. Continue reading “Syntagma”

Park Hotel

Park Hotel, Αθήνα, Greece

I had different hotels in Αθήνα, Greece, most of them not being special. My worst choice was the first: I booked a cheap hotel of a world wide chain in Omonia, not knowing that this is the area for prostitution and drugs. Therefore it was a real relief to check into the Park Hotel. Continue reading “Park Hotel”

Frappé metrio me gala

Frappé, Αθήνα, Greece

Maybe it is nothing special and always returning here is just a strange tradition of mine – but I like the Cafe Plaka in Αθήνα, Greece. It is located underneath the Acropolis in the nice city quarter called Plaka and it has a wonderful roof terrace. Continue reading “Frappé metrio me gala”
