Tucked away in the wooded hills near Uslar, the Bergsee at Delliehausen is one of those quietly atmospheric places that feels far removed from modern life. At first glance, it appears to be a natural mountain lake, its dark, still waters framed by dense forest and steep slopes. In reality, however, it is a relic of the region’s industrial past, shaped by human activity rather than nature alone.

I don’t know too many reasons to get to the small town of Uslar in Germany. It is not the most beautiful place on earth but it offers one speciality you don’t see that often: a butterfly park. From April to October you can be surrounded by huge tropical butterflies and enjoy another climate zone: the place was heated at the time of our visit to 29 degrees Celsius. When we were at Uslar, Germany and looking for something to eat I remembered that many years ago I was at the local Bergbräu brewery and they had a good restaurant.
