A special flora and fauna awaits you on the tableland called Giara di Gesturi. Wonderful macchia and cork oak trees that are covered with moss and plats can be seen, flat lakes called pauli and 600 rather shy wild horses that live freely on the area – accompanied by sheep, wildcats and pigs.
When you reach Gesturi, Italy you need to find the signs guiding you up the hill within the city. After some kilometers you’ll find a parking lot with a tourist information center (if the fog there isn’t too extreme). There you can also rent a bike to explore the 43 square kilometers large area. But you can also easily reach interesting areas on foot.
The next picnic area under beautiful trees and with fireplaces is not far away; the same is valid for the pauli lakes. We were there in October and the lakes were rather dry. We saw many leftovers of the animals – but none of them. But even the landscape and the trees were worth a visit.
