Getting around in Cologne

You will find a confusing public transport network in Köln, Germany. S-Bahn trains, tramways that become subway trains and busses form a complex network with a limited number of hubs like the Neumarkt. Maybe I should have tried to learn the network map by heart; I only reached my destinations by calculating routes in mobile apps.

How to buy tickets for public transport at Cologne?

When you want to buy a ticket you first have to find out from which and to which price zone you want to travel. The app of Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe is pretty useful for that. The center is zone 1 and I never went further then the second zone named 1b. The prices for day tickets seem to be fair. You could buy tickets also within the app but the payment options seemed a bit odd. I always bought tickets at vending machines at the stops which was really easy.
