Futuristic toilets

Tōkyō, Japan

While toilets in public spaces normally look like the typical western standard, you might find special devices in hotels. My hotel had one of these with buttons – bringing up water streams like a shower. Nothing I really made use of.

Suidōbashi Grand Hotel

Suidobashi Grand Hotel, Tōkyō, Japan

The Suidōbashi Grand Hotel is a typical hotel in Tōkyō, Japan. During my visit to a scientific conference I was staying here and had the smallest hotel room of all times – only a bed fitted into with very little space surrounding it.

Tōkyō Dome City

Tōkyō Dome City, Japan

When I was going to my hotel in Tōkyō, Japan I found a giant wheel and a rollercoaster in the center of the city. As I was quite surprised by this I decided to have a small walk and found the Tōkyō Dome, a baseball stadium used for the favorite sports of the country.

Akihabara

Akihabara, Tōkyō, Japan

Akihabara – also called Electric Town – is a city quarter of Tōkyō, Japan. Many tourists get here because of the special atmosphere created by shops for electronic devices, selling freaky gadgets in addition the ordinary stuff.

Yushima Seidō

Yushima Seidō, Tōkyō

I must admit I simply found it by walking through the streets of Tōkyō, Japan. Yushima Seidō is a temple dedicated to the doctrine of Confucius – a well-known Chinese philosopher.

Boxed food

Tōkyō, Japan

It’s a Japanese tradition to pack colorful boxes with different food for lunch. When I arrived in Tōkyō, Japan I was late (because my flight was cancelled) and hastily I went to my already started conference. I arrived shortly before dinner and was faced with my first Bento box.

Tōkyō Narita International Airport (NRT)

Tōkyō Narita International Airport (NRT), Japan

The airport of Tōkyō, Japan is located 66 kilometers afar from the city in a region called Narita. It was opened in 1978 and has three terminals. It is the second largest airport of Japan and all mayor Japanese airlines use it as a hub.

Längste Theke der Welt

Altes Rathaus, Düsseldorf

The Altes Rathaus in Düsseldorf, Germany is the old and beautiful town hall located close to river Rhein. It was built until 1573 in renaissance style. Today it is the end point of a street named the longest bar in the world as there are so many clubs and bars there.

Hauptbahnhof, Düsseldorf

The main railway station of Düsseldorf, Germany is passed daily by 250000 passengers and is therefore the #6 of the most frequented railway stations in Germany. It was opened in 1891 to replace three former railway stations.

I’ve been to Venezia, Italy as a child with my father – but the first time I can really remember was when we returned guiding a tourist group at the time of the Carnevale di Venezia. A time when the city is especially crowded with tourists.
