Teatro Vorterix

The Vorterix is a well-known live-music venue in the Colegiales district of Buenos Aires, at Avenida Federico Lacroze 3455. It has room for roughly 1,500 people and forms part of the wider Vorterix project, which combines a concert hall with a radio station, digital platform and recording facilities. The venue is particularly associated with rock and alternative music, hosting both Argentine and international artists.

The building itself has a longer entertainment history. Before becoming Teatro Vorterix, it was known as the Teatro Colegiales and had previously operated as the Argos cinema-theatre. Over the years it also appeared under names such as The Roxy Club and El Teatro Roxy, reflecting the changing musical life of the neighbourhood. Its reopening as Teatro Vorterix on May 25th, 2012 gave the building a new identity while preserving its role as a popular cultural venue.

The launch was remarkably large for a venue of its size. Around 30,000 people gathered outside at the junction of Federico Lacroze and Álvarez Thomas, where Nonpalidece performed an open-air concert; afterwards, a smaller audience inside witnessed a surprise appearance by Skay Beilinson. The combination of live performances, radio broadcasting and online transmission helped establish Vorterix as one of Buenos Aires’s more distinctive modern music institutions.

I went to Teatro Vorterix for a concert by the German band Feine Sahne Fischfilet, supported by the local group Zona 84 (plus Joshi of ZSK). At that time, the group was touring Argentina together with Die Toten Hosen, which made the evening particularly memorable: a German punk-rock band performing in a compact Buenos Aires venue, surrounded by the energetic atmosphere of Colegiales and an audience connected by music despite the distance from home.
