Broken glass

In 1967 the country of Liechtenstein received a donation of ten contemporary artworks which became the starting point for a state-owned art collection. Nowadays you can find two connected buildings in the pedestrian zone of Vaduz, the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein and the Hilti Art Foundation. These modern museums erected in 2000 and 2015 now contain a nice collection of modern and contemporary art.

This includes works of Francis Bacon, Ernst Barlach, Georg Baselitz, Joseph Beuys, Georges Braque, Marc Chagall, Christo, Edgar Degas, Jim Dine, Francisco de Goya, George Grosz, Donald Judd, Wassily Kandinsky, William Kentridge, Per Kirkeby, Paul Klee, Gustav Klimt, Le Corbusier, Franz Marc, Paul McCarthy, Joan Miró, Edvard Munch, Bruce Nauman, Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Emil Nolde, Nam June Paik, Camille Pissarro, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Paul Signac, Alfred Sisley, Jean Tinguely, Timm Ulrichs and many more.

Additionally a lot of a changing exhibitions take place on these premises. I had the chance to see Andante con moto by Liliana Moro, an artist from Milano that made me walk on broken glass for being able to see all her works. You can access both collections through the Kunstmuseum entrance where you’ll also find a wonderful coffee bar, lockers and restrooms.
