A Midsummer Night’s Dream

The Waldbühne Bremke is located in a forest close to the village of Bremke, belonging to the community of Gleichen. It was created in 1949 honoring the Brothers Grimm and for entertaining visitors mostly with fairytales. The Waldbühne offers 942 seats, the season is always between May and September (with a break for summer vacations). They play family-oriented classics like Snow White, Rumpelstiltskin or The Magic Flute.

I went there for their interpretation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a play that has been written by William Shakespeare between 1595 and 1596. The story is located in Αθήνα and focusses the marriage of Theseus and Hippolyta, with many more absurd love stories behind. Enhanced with 70’s music their version was a fun for young and old.

The team of the Waldbühne also offers snacks and drinks. It is organized by a private association which you can support by becoming a member, helping in maintaining the stage or maybe you want to be part of the show? The only drawback is that the stage is hardly reachable by public transport and parking lots are limited – better arrive early.
