I love flying from the international airport of Frankfurt, Germany (FRA) – it is the biggest airport of Germany and I have the feeling of knowing it by heart. This time we got here in preparation of the first flight of our youngest family member.
If you get to terminal 2 and go up and up there is not only a good court with the ubiquitous fast food – but also a playgound and large windows with good views on the airfield. For a small fee of three Euros you can get out and walk along the terminal, watch the planes be unloaded, prepared and loaded again.
You can see planes starting and landing at least every five minutes on normal days. Afterwards we did a round trip with a skytrain on the SkyLine – running on the roofs of the terminals. It is an automatically driven bus driving on a monorail.
Best way to get to the airport is the S-Bahn stopping close to terminal 1 (using the skytrain to get to terminal 2). If you get there by car the parking is quite costly – you should consider using P8 or P9 next to terminal 2. Parking underneath the terminal costs € 4,50 per hour – but you can enjoy driving down on a huge spiral next to the drop-off section.
