It was an easy decision: when one of my favorite scientific conferences decided to hold the annual meeting in a hotel at the shore of wonderful Lago di Como, I wrote and submitted a paper. Some days in advance I took a flight to Milano, Italy and went with a rental car to the south.

The Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore is the cathedral of Firenze, Italy and one of the most impressive churches I’ve ever seen. Already from the outside it looks magical and unreal. The Galleria degli Uffizi is a world-famous art museum in Firenze, Italy. It was built from 1559 on as an office (therefore the name) for the public administration. Since 1580 it contains art and since then it was open to the public. It contains mainly works in Italian renaissance style. Continue reading “Galleria degli Uffizi”
The Palazzo Vecchio is a the ancient parliament of the republic of Firenze (now part of Italy) and serves today as the town hall of the city. It was built from the year 1299 on and also included private rooms for the members of parliament. It looks like a fortification because it should protect the parliament against the citizens. The Ponte Vecchio is a famous and well-known bridge in Firenze, Italy. It was built in 1345, crosses the river Arno and is completely covered by houses. It is part of a completely roofed way between the Palazzo Pitti and the Galleria degli Uffizi on the other side of the river. Continue reading “Ponte Vecchio”
