Gion

Gion, Kyōto

Yasaka-jinja

The Yasaka-jinja (formerly Gion-jinja) is a Shintō shrine in the Gion district of Kyōto, Japan. It was built in the year 656 and is a modern shrine that is seen as one of the biggest in Japan. Continue reading “Yasaka-jinja”

Shōsei-en

Shōsei-en, Kyōto

The Shōsei-en is an absolutely wonderful Japanese garden in Kyōto, Japan that belongs to the Higashi-Hongan-ji temple. It dates back to the Heian period (794-1185) and contains a nice pond from that time that is spanned by an old bridge. Continue reading “Shōsei-en”

Higashi Honjan-Ji

Higashi Honjan-Ji, Kyōto

If you get into Kyōto, Japan from the main railway station the first temple you will see is the Higashi Honjan-Ji – a shinto temple with a nice Buddha hall and a beautiful garden. The Englischer Garten is a 375 hectares large park in München, Germany – it is one of the largest parks in the world. It’s name refers to the English landscape gardens the park was built after. The Frauenkirche

The Dom zu Unserer Lieben Frau in München, Germany – also called Frauenkirche – is one of the town’s landmarks. The building goes back to 1428 and the two towers are nearly 100 meters high. A trip to Sorrento

Sorrento, Italy

Sorrento, Italy is located on the wonderful Amalfi coast. From Napoli you can the Circumvesuviana from Porta Nolana to the railway station of Sorrento. It has 17000 inhabitants and lies ona peninsula in the gulf of Napoli. The rocky area attracts tourists with orange and lemon gardens. Continue reading “A trip to Sorrento”
