Göttingen is a city of science and is sometimes seen as an university with a city surrounding it. This fact creates a unique situation: the city is young, international and has the highest bar density of northern Germany. Göttingen has 130.000 inhabitants and 20 percent of them are students. It is located in the south of the federal state Lower Saxony of Germany.

Memorial stone for the fallen railway employees in World War II. It carries the inscription 1939-1945, was set-up in 1953. The plaque with the words “Zum ehrenden Gedächtnis an die im Weltkriege gefallenen Arbeitskameraden des Bahnbetriebswerks Göttingen. Sie starben, auf dass Deutschland lebe” / ‘In honor of the work comrades of the Göttingen railway depot who fell in World War II. They died so that Germany might live‘ has been stolen. The stone is hidden and in bad condition.
