The Tour Eiffel is the highest building at Paris, the second highest one – clearly visible on the skyline of the city – is the Tour Montparnasse next to the Gare Montparnasse at the 15eme arrondissement. It was inaugurated in 1973 and is 210 meters high, 120 meters smaller than Eiffels iconic building. But nevertheless it is still today controversial, as only these two buildings stand out in this part of the city. The Tour Montparnasse was designed in the International Style and has 59 floors.
Floor 59 is the probably the main reason to visit the Tour Montparnasse: it is the rooftop from which you have nice views on the Tour Eiffel and the heart of Paris. You should buy a ticket (with a specified timeslot) in advance and have some patience: waiting queues at the elevators can be pretty long at the ground floor and when going down again. When I went up there was nothing to see because of clouds surrounding the building. Fortunately after some minutes they were blown away by the wind and the views were really nice.
