European quarter

Luxembourg is home to different European institutions: it is one of the seats of the European parliament, but also the court of justice, the court of auditors and the investment bank can be found there. These institutions are all located on the Kirchberg plateau northeast of the ancient city.

This area is the modern Lëtzebuerg, with glass and steel; a typical business city. To make it more accessible this part of the city has its own railway station which a connected by a funicular. But why did these institutions find their home in this city? Luxembourg is one of the founding members of the EU and already the European Coal and Steel Community (a predecessor) was founded there after World War II in 1952.
