St.-Paulus-Dom

The cathedral of Münster in Westfalen, Germany – the St.-Paulus-Dom – is a vast and very impressive church located in the centre of the city. In front of it you’ll find the also very big Domplatz that hosts a giant farmers’ market on every Saturday. It is a roman-catholic church dedicated to Paul the Apostle and dates back to the year 1225 CE – former buildings can be traced back to the year 805.

The building is now designed in gothic style, former buildings where romanesque, ottonian and pre-romanesque. It includes two more than 50 meters high towers, wonderful glass windows, different graves and an astronomical clock. The list of interesting elements is long; for example the church contains a statue of the Saint Barbara carrying a tower in her hands. The legend says that she was locked up in a tower to prevent her from marriage and Christian influence. Because of the narrowness of the tower she is now the patron saint of miners.
