The church St. Johannis is one of the four churches in the city center of Göttingen, Germany and located close to the old town hall and the market place. It is a Gothic-style church from the 14th century and its two 62 meters high towers can be seen from far away.
It has been built from 1300 to 1348 and is dedicated to John the Baptist. In 1944 the church was hit by the compression wave of an air mine. The northern tower formerly contained a flat and students were living there that offered tours. In 2005 two young persons did set the tower on fire and now no one is living there – but sometimes a tour is offered on weekends for a small fee.
