The Deutsches Technikmuseum in Berlin, Germany is a vast technology museum close to the station “Gleisdreieck” – it can be best accessed via subway. It consists of different buildings: the entrance building with a plane (“Rosinenbomber“) is connected to the main building, a park and two engine sheds. The Science Center Spectrum in Berlin, Germany is part of the Deutsches Technikmuseum and located close to it in an administrational building of the former Anhalter Bahnhof. It is a place for scientific experiments and it is really hands-on: you can play yourself with 150 experiments. It was opened in 1983 and extended its size from 400 to 1400 square meters over time. The Spreewald (or Błota in Lower Sorbian) is a nice former swamp area where you can hike, ride your bycicle, do canoeing or let yourself be taken around in small traditional ships. But what if the weather is bad? In Lübbenau, Germany there is also a nice spa – the Spreewelten. It is quite a typical indoor and outdoor adventure pool – with artificial waves, a small restaurant and a lazy river. Continue reading “Swimming with penguins”
Especially older people getting to the Spreewald (Błota in Lower Sorbian) want to explore the old artificial channels in small traditional ships. These have benches and tables, often drinks are provided and they are moved by a person with a long bar pushing them forward. It is the Venezia of German retirees. The Döberitzer Heide close to Dallgow-Döberitz, Germany is a 5000 hectares large nature protection area not far away from Berlin. From the year 1713 on it was a military training ground and as it was only closed in 1991 there are still some relicts: old buildings and unexploded bombs. Today the Heinz-Sielmann-Stiftung uses the area to reestablish species like the European bison and Przewalski horses. Continue reading “Döberitzer Heide”
When staying in Hannover, Germany I was normally couch-surfing at the home of friends. This time I had to book a hotel and a recommendation was the ibis hotel in Vahrenwalder Straße – a rather cheap one, but it gives you the possibility to reach the main railway station of Hannover within three stops of the tramway.
