Museums of New York City

New York is a paradise for museum enthusiasts. You’ll find well-known museums of modern art, natural history or cultural anthropology – you already heard of them all. I’ll just list the big ones you cannot omit while being at New York.

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum
An exhibition space for different kinds of art within a fantastic building. You can walk up the museum without using stairs – in fact, you’re in a big spiral.

American Museum of Natural History
A museum of nature and natural history. You’ll find the famous dinosaurs at the entrance, you can track back different animal species or visit space.

Whitney Museum of American Art
A museum with changing exhibitions mostly for modern American art. As I was there it was housing an exhibition of Jeff Coons (an artist I really favor).

The Metropolitan Museum of Art
A wonderful building full of exhibits of different kinds. You can stroll around through temples of Afghanistan or look at different styles of American furniture.

New Museum of Contemporary Art
In comparison to the other museums in this list: a rather small and new one. It exhibits contemporary and has a really good book store and roof terrace.

Well known throughout the world the MoMA exhibits different kinds of modern art. Even only the building would be worth a visit.
