If people think about Japanese food, they always have sushi in mind. Or maybe kobe beef. But the best of all – and I’ve been twice to Japan – is Japanese curry. It is rice with chunks of meat of your choice with an extremely delicious gravy. I would walk one hundred miles for that.
In Japan I like the fast food chain CoCo Ichibanya (“CoCo curry house”) most – in New York I found a good alternative: Go! Go! CURRY!. The restaurant with the fancy name serves plain and authentic Japanese curry on different locations in New York City. One is close to Washington square:
