You’re at Hannover, Germany or plan to go there and you don’t know yet what to do? No problem – check out this list of the best things you can do at Hannover.

Have an endless walk within the great garden of the Herrenhäuser Gärten: The Großer Garten (great garden) is the centerpiece of the Herrenhäuser Gärten and the most important tourist highlight of Hannover, Germany. It is a vast French formal garden that is seen as one of the most significant of its kind. The garden has a rectangular shape and is 905 meters long and 555 meters wide. Spend a day in a fantastic zoological garden: It is said that the “Erlebnis-Zoo” in Hannover, Germany is the best zoological garden in Germany – and I would support this ranking. But to enter this place you’ll first have to have a lot of money; the entrance fees are pretty high – already for small children. For the inhabitants of Hannover, better priced seasonal tickets seem to make this an option for more frequent children’s entertainment. Read more…

Visit the largest collection of Orchidaceae in Europe: In 1666 the House of Welf was in need of a place to grow vegetables and created the Berggarten on a sand dune from the last glacial period (therefore the name ‘mountain garden‘). Later greenhouses were built to grow rice, tobacco and morus plants. Since the year 1750 it is solely a botanical garden and one of the oldest in Germany. It also contains a mausoleum for members of the House of Welf. Read more…

Learn more about three different worlds: The Landesmuseum Hannover is a special museum located between the Sprengel-Museum and the Neues Rathaus of Hannover, Germany. It calls itself ‘WeltenMuseum‘ because it shows different separate worlds: nature, mankind and art. The building in renaissance revival architecture style was built in 1902. Read more…

Explore a town hall that is looking like a castle: It is one of the most beautiful town hall buildings in Germany: the Neues Rathaus at Hannover. That is a bit confusing as the ‘new’ town hall is already pretty old – it was built between 1903 and 1911 CE. It became necessary as the old town hall building from the year 1230 became too small because of the massive expansion of the city. It really looks like a castle and is still in use today – as the seat of the administration and the mayor. Read more…

Have a cold drink next to a vast artificial lake: The Maschsee is an urban lake in HannoverGermany close to the town hall and the soccer stadium. It is 2.4 kilometers long and has been artificially created in the beginning of the 1930s. It is used for sailing and canoeing and it is a nice place for a walk. It was built to protect the city of Hannover from floods that occurred because the rivers of the area have been straightened. Read more…
