Waterloo, Gleichen

Former restaurant operated by a soldier participating in the Battle of Waterloo (1815). It had a railway station of the Gartetalbahn in front and was often visited by students from Göttingen. In the 1970s it first became a discotheque named Ponderosa, later a nightclub called Pigalle. Today it is a ruin protected by a metal fence.

Memorial stone for the fallen railway employees in World War II. It carries the inscription 1939-1945, was set-up in 1953. The plaque with the words “Zum ehrenden Gedächtnis an die im Weltkriege gefallenen Arbeitskameraden des Bahnbetriebswerks Göttingen. Sie starben, auf dass Deutschland lebe” / ‘In honor of the work comrades of the Göttingen railway depot who fell in World War II. They died so that Germany might live‘ has been stolen. The stone is hidden and in bad condition.
