MACRO

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Rosario, usually known as MACRO, is Rosario’s principal museum of contemporary art. It occupies a striking group of former grain silos beside the Paraná river, whose brightly painted exterior has become one of the city’s most recognisable sights. The building combines industrial heritage with modern exhibition spaces spread across several levels.

Inside, visitors can see works by Argentine and international contemporary artists, including paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, installations and multimedia pieces. The exhibitions often address subjects such as memory, politics, identity, technology, social change and everyday life, so the museum is as much a place for reflection as for viewing art. Its collection is particularly valuable for discovering modern Argentine artists alongside younger and less familiar voices.

The visit is also worthwhile for the building and its setting. Moving through the former silos gives the museum a distinctive vertical character, while the upper levels offer broad views over the Paraná, the river islands and the Rosario waterfront. Exhibitions change regularly; in 2026, the programme includes displays dealing with historical memory, economic and social debt, digital technology, LGBT+ culture and experimental forms of drawing and painting.
