Vierordtbad

The oldest bathhouse of Karlsruhe can be found close to the congress center and the Zoologischer Stadtgarten in a historic building made of red bricks. It dates back to the year 1873 and was realised with money donated by the banker Heinrich Vierordt. When he died he inherited 60,000 Gulden to the city which were planned to errect a market hall – but the sellers on the market of Karlsruhe protested against.

Therefore a bathhouse with steam baths and tubs was built. Over time the tubs were replaced by a pool, later also a sauna was added. A nice chance to swim in a modern but historic building with a special architecture. And if you’ve forgotten your swimming trunks: don’t worry, on weekends and the afternoon even the pool is garment-free. A fact I found out only when I was already swimming and continuously naked people entered the water… The Vierordtbad is really easy to reach as the S-Bahn stop Kongresszentrum is directly in front and the lines passing there go from the railway station to the city center.
